4 Amazing Cities You'll Want to Add to Your Travel List
Life is short, so you need to make sure you explore as much of the world as you can, as soon as you can. There are so many amazing cities in the world, each with its own unique history and culture just waiting for you to explore. While it's important to enjoy yourself and throw yourself into city exploration, it's equally as important to keep yourself safe and protected while on your travels. More than 10 million British people traveled abroad without the correct insurance in 2017, which could have ended up costing thousands if the worst happened. Don't be part of this statistic: make sure you're covered when you visit each of these cities.
1. Jaffna, Sri Lanka
This South Asian country is filled with architectural wonders and beautiful religious temples. Most people tend to flock to the capital city Colombo but travel writer Ben Groundwater thinks this is a missed opportunity. Jaffna, in particular, is a cultured city with so many activities in which to partake. Hindu temples are a delight to admire and Fort Jaffna is a must-visit destination for those wanting to learn more about the history of the city.
2. Bangkok, Thailand
Ideal for people who enjoy an action-packed city break, Bangkok is the city that never sleeps and the ultimate party destination. Whenever you plan to visit, there's guaranteed to be a festival taking place such as the Songkran festival. This is where the whole city takes part in competitive water fights and put on their best dancing shoes at a street party. If you prefer holidays at a slower pace, there are a variety of grand temples and palaces to explore at your leisure, such as the magnificent Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
3. New Orleans, USA
This Louisiana city is one of the most underrated in the USA and has an epic jazz and art scene. If you find yourself in the city in November, paint a sugar skull mask on to your face and take part in the Day of the Dead festivities. The city's French Quarter comes to life with music, food and live performances. However, it's important to note that health care in the US is among the most expensive in the world and can leave you out of pocket if you find yourself injured.
4. Split, Croatia
Croatia is an up-and-coming travel destination, so it makes sense to head there before it becomes too crowded. Split, in particular, is a great place to visit if you struggle to choose between city breaks and coastal holidays – here, you can enjoy both.
Get your culture fix by exploring the Cathedral of St. Domnius and Diocletian's Palace, or spend time strolling around Marjan National Park. You can even hike to the top of the hill, where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the city. For a more chilled out experience, spend your time relaxing on the beach, enjoying the Mediterranean sunshine.
