Admiring the Parksville Sand Sculpting Competition & Exhibition
Located on the east coast of Vancouver Island, Parksville is a seaside city that hosts a professional Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition each summer as part of the Parksville Beach Festival.
This year’s event, held in the Parksville Community Park, featured competitors from all over the world and guaranteed the first place winner (seen in the photo above!) a spot in the The World Championships of Sand Sculpting. The actual construction and judging is held right at the beginning of the Sand Sculpting Competition in July, but visitors can view the structures until about mid-August. Admission is by donation.
Below you’ll find some photos from this year’s event. The theme of the 2019 competition was Myths & Legends and the sculptures were extraordinary! See for yourself:
If you find yourself in the Parksville area, checking out this annual exhibition is a fun way to spend an hour and can easily be combined with a walk along the adjacent boardwalk or an afternoon spent beach-combing.
