Icebergs at Sunset: A Greenland Photo Journal
When the Arctic sun dramatically sets on the horizon and blankets the icy landscape in pink and purple hues, you know you’re about to witness something remarkable.
With the warmth and light of the day departing with the setting sun, the colors over the ocean intensify. Gigantic ‘bergs’ silently float on the waters’ surface, while the full moon rises up in the sky and illuminates a mirage of enormous ice blocks in the far distance. The temperature, already cold to begin with, felt dry and freezing, and I shivered under my many layers of clothing as I fumbled with my camera to photograph the natural drama unfolding before me.
Each minute spent in Greenland felt magical, and I have yet to find another place that has intrigued me more, but watching the sun set over this remote landscape, and the vivid display of light that went along with it, was a clear highlight.
