Best Vancouver Breakfast Spots (and Where to Find Them)

Best Vancouver Breakfast Spots (and Where to Find Them)

Vancouver is full of delicious, international lunch and dinner dining options, but where do you go for breakfast? While there aren't as many options, the city does offer up some tasty places featuring everything from fresh baked goods to hearty dishes loaded with protein to locally sourced vegan and gluten-free fare.

Read on below for some of the best breakfast spots in Vancouver and where to find them!

Café Medina

Since it's opening 10 years ago, Café Medina has become the go-to place for the best Belgian waffles in Vancouver, and a beloved weekend brunch spot. Plus, the specialty coffees are pretty good, too. Try the Lavender Latte or the Chocolate Pistachio Rosewater Mocha for something unique.

If you're hoping to secure a table on a Saturday or Sunday, be sure to get there early to avoid the weekend line ups.

Deacon's Corner

At Deacon's Corner in Gastown, you'll find classic breakfast options like their buttermilk pancakes or hearty plates served with eggs, bacon, sausages, and fruit in a laid-back diner setting.

Below is the map for the Gastown location, but Deacon's also has one other diner in Kitsilano at 3189 West Broadway.

Thierry

Fancy a quick trip to Europe? Stop by for buttery-soft yet crunchy (in other words, perfect) croissant and coffee at Thierry, a quaint little chocolate and pastry shop located in the heart of downtown Vancouver. The small covered patio is lovely for spending an hour or two people-watching in the summer, or even on rainy days that aren't too cold to sit outside.

Better still? Once you're done breakfast, get some handcrafted chocolates to go for a sweet indulgence later in the day!

Granville Island Public Market

Inside the Granville Island public market halls you'll find a colorful selection of ripe fruit, fresh seafood, pastries, sandwiches, and more. Grab something to go and explore the stalls or head outside to catch an entertaining street performer (although, beware of the feisty seagulls as they won't hesitate to snatch your food).

Afterwards, you can walk the False Creek seawall or take one of the little Aquabus ferry boats back to downtown.

Aphrodite's Organic Cafe & Pie Shop

Serving brunch seven days a week, Aphrodite's Organic Cafe & Pie Shop features a menu of organic comfort food dishes made from fresh and local ingredients. Their breakfast/brunch/lunch menu is served daily until 3pm and includes plenty of vegan and gluten-free options.

Nelson the Seagull

Head on over to Nelson the Seagull in Gastown where their Avocado on Toast (actually served on in-house fresh baked bread) shines as this hip cafe's most popular (and healthy) breakfast item.

Cartems Donuts

Craving a donut? Then you'll want to check out Cartems! They make their donuts fresh from scratch on a daily basis, and their dough, glazes, and fillings are comprised of natural ingredients. They also always have vegan and gluten-friendly options available as well. Favorites of mine are include their Earl Grey donut and London Fog stuffie (whipped cream and London Fog tea stuffed inside a donut!).

The map below shows Cartems downtown location, but you can also find them in Mount Pleasant at 2190 Main Street and in Kistilano at 3040 West Broadway.
